All Eyes

So I recently decided to try the cat-eye look. I know I'm super late with this trend but hey, better late than never.
I wear eyeliner everyday but I tend to keep it pretty basic. I wanted to play up my eyes and decided to check out some videos on YouTube (I really have come to appreciate all the things you can learn on YouTube, wow!!).
So I've gotten the basic look down. I love the way m eyes stand out and it gives me some options for changing my look up a bit without having to do anything too extra. I've work this look to work with a bright lip for a daytime look. Also did it with eyeshadow and and the works for night. It's a versatile look that gives you some oomph.(yeah I said oomph)
Here are some looks to inspire you.
Not my eye

Now that I've tried it out, there are other great ways to expand on this look. My next step is to use a blue liner instead of black.
Check out Rihanna's version. Looks good don't you think?

To achieve the look you can try:
MAC Fluidline in Waveline
MAC LiquidLast Liner  in Inky

I'm sure you can fine blue liner in pretty much any beauty store or cosmetic shop. These are only suggestions.

Good luck trying this out.

New Do

I discovered Crochet Braids recently, and I'm smitten. I normally go and get my braids done for a hundred and seventy bucks; well not anymore I won't. This style is so easy and so cheap to do. The coolest part is that I can do it myself.
I watched a bunch of YouTube vids and learned the technique. My friend helped with the back, but I think I can manage it if needs be.
I'm super happy with the results. My mind is whirling with all the different types of hair I can use and the different looks. I can't wait! I'm going to be a diva, changing my hair every few weeks. Lol.

Golden Globes Fashion...The Good, Bad and Ugly

I didn't watch the Golden Globes but I saw some of the dresses. I was not impressed by much of what I saw. Most of the looks were very boring. I'm no fashion expert and I don't follow trends so maybe pale and boring is the new look and somehow I missed it.
Here are a few of the ones that impressed me.

Helen Mirren

Nicole Kidman and hubs
Jessica Biel

Viola is by far my favorite. I love the rich color and that awesome side split of the dress. She keeps it simple with jewelry and makeup.
Jessica Biel is also wearing a lovely dress (I would wear it as a wedding gown). I have a thing for lace, it's the granny in me. I was immediately drawn to the dress, it's sexy in an understated kind of way.
I love the detailing on Nicole Kidman's dress. It's so intricate and fun but can someone tell me why she looks like a wax doll?
I really admire Helen Mirren. She is way hot for an old lady. I love the color and age-appropriateness of her dress.

Ok so there you have it for the good, now take a gander at the bad and the just plain ugly.

BAD...Emily Watson. I don't even know what to say. Sorry, maybe?

UGLY...is that a slip??

Hair Today

So in preparation for my new hair style, I took out my braids.
I had to go to church today and needed to do something with myself. I did my first twist out on my natural hair and I have to say I really, really liked it.
It was a little hard getting used to myself with out the braids or a relaxer at first; it has been years since I've rocked my kinks.
My confidence to wear it out is growing. I don't think I'm all the way there but since my goal is to wear it out come July I'm hoping that I'll get confident right quick.
So here are some photos of my twist out and my afro after I combed it out so my momma could cornrow it up for my new 'do.

Up close and personal

So here I am in my natural glory. I want to grow my hair some more so that when I do the twist outs they will be bigger.
It's amazing how much shrinkage occurred after I washed. When my hair was dry it was way bigger than this but after water hit it, it shrank sooooo much. I guess that is part of the natural experience I need to get use to.

Hair Again

One of my goals this year is to wear my hair totally natural by the summer. I mean no braids, nothing. Just me and my coils. In the meantime I'll continue to braid my hair to help it grow out.
I've recently discovered a new way to do my braids and I was looking around around for some inspiration. I remembered spotting a pic of Solange with her afro and thought it was way cool. I think she is wearing the same braids I'm going to try out.

Honestly I can't say I'm a huge fan of Solange Knowles. I never really listened to her music or followed up on her much.
However, when she decided to go natural and chopped off her her hair I noticed because there was such a huge deal made about her.
I have to admit she has a very unique sense of style that I appreciate. I wouldn't wear everything she wears but I admire her boldness and ability to express herself sartorially. Something not everyone can pull off.
I love her hair though more than anything else, from the very cropped cut to her big ol' afros.

Here are a few pics to enjoy and inspire.

2 Nights in a Row

Date number 2 happened. We went to see Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Great movie but totally awkward to watch with someone you hardly know. There were a few adult scenes and lots of nudity. I was so embarrassed, lol.

I'm still not sure if there is any chemistry on my end. I just don't know if I feel attracted to him. It might just be me, maybe I am too picky.
He seems like a really nice guy and intelligent enough but there just aren't any sparks. It might be too early to tell so I'm going to just give it time. I just don't want to keep hanging out with him and I never feel any attraction. Then I'll have to have that conversation. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I just need to chill and take it one day at a time.
Let's see what happens.

Date Night

So you know how I said I was giving up on the whole online dating stuff? Well, a couple days later I got a message from a guy who seemed normal. At first I was going to ignore his message because I read his profile and he did not seem to realize that God invented puntuations for a reason. I get annoyed by that stuff, the teacher in me just refuses to overlook blatant grammatical infractions. Anywho, my friend convinced me to respond and I did.
We chatted a couple times on the phone and last night we had a date.

He isn't bad looking but he is not as tall as I like and I'm not sure if he is my type.
Sparks weren't flying but the conversation was good and I had some good laughs. He seems like a really nice guy so I'm open to going out again. He's already asked.
I had a good time so we shall see what happens next.
I'll keep you posted.

Resolutions? Not For Me.

I am not a resolutions making type of girl. Usually, I think about things I want to accomplish, set goals and work towards achieving them.
Same thing applies this year. I have a few goals that I want to work on accomplishing.
1. Get my driver's license. This has been a goal for like the last 5 years. Should have happened a long time ago but I'm scared ya'll. However, it must be done this year. I'm tired of my friends laughing at me now. My pride won't allow it so I'm facing my fears and taking my butt out to get some lessons. My target date is July.

2. Get my US passport. I became a citizen early last year and I've procrastinated long enough. I want to do some travelling and I have no choice than  to do it; so sooner than later on this one. I'm giving myself until July.

3. Pay down my debts. This might be the hardest one since I have a shopping problem but I need to get my house in order and this is the biggest ball and chain to have. This means I'll have to cut back on shopping from J. Crew and the Loft but  it is worth it to have financial freedom; besides I have more than enough clothes and shoes to last a life time.I'll give this the entire year to do.

4. Continue on my weight loss journey. I haven't updated recently but I've been doing ok. I've  lost 12 pounds and only regained 4 over the break. Not bad considering I was eating everything that is yummy for the past month and a half. I'm sticking to Weight Watchers and I know I'll continue to lose the weight.

So I feel really good about these goals. They are realistic and measurable. Will be keeping you updated as I check them off the list. No Resolutions Just Goals.

Celebrate Good Times

I went out the other night to celebrate the birthday of one of my really good friends. I wore the top I mentioned HERE.
It's good to get out of the house and be around friends. There was plenty of laughs and good vibes. I definitely had a blast.

The birthday girl and I.

My hommies.

Best Wishes

To all my friends and readers.  May you have all you desire and God's richest blessings on your life.
