New Beginning

Hi friends, today was a day of closing doors and beginning new chapters.
Closed the doors on grad school and the South Bronx. I am officially done with my Masters program and it was my last day of work at my school.
I'm no longer a student and I am currently unemployed, at least for the next 8 weeks. It feels great, especially when I turned off my 5:15 alarm. Woohoo!

Looking forward to the new chapter of my life as I head off to a world unknown (hahaa so dramatic).

I was reading a really great article about dating HERE  that I happened upon awhile back. It's such an interesting perspective on dating but it definitely resonates with me because I feel that many people don't take the time to get to know the important things before jumping into a relationship. Then later on they are "surprised" to find out how different the person is from what was expected.

I think that if people really took the time to get know each other on a deeper level than just the physical, a lot of relationships particularly marriages would be more successful.
Check out the article.

Color Pop

I was in the mood to do a little shopping yesterday and since everyone was having some kind of sale with extra off sale, I ventured out to see what I could find. It proved to be a very productive expedition.

As excited as I am that work will be ending very soon, in eight days to be exact, it means that I have to begin the arduous process of sorting, packing and getting rid of my stuff. The days are winding down before I'll be headed off. Oh my, it's starting to hit me.

I've talked a lot about the great parts of my move but have purposefully blocked out the most important part. I just don't want to deal with it. My room already looks like a tornado went through because I just don't know what to do with all the stuff I have.

Making Memories

Friday night we had our end of year mixer for work.
My gang and I went and I had such an awesome time. We drank tons of wine and ate to our hearts content.
I can honestly say I feel so blessed with the friends I made at work, they helped keep me sane and they put up with my antics most of the times. Lol.
There is no doubt I'll make new friends when I leave but none will ever compare to these guys.
I will cherish this night.

Girl's Night Out

Last Thursday, my girls and I went to a Shecky's Girls Night Out event in NYC. I've always wanted to go and finally got the chance.I had a great time with the girls. It was just nice to have a stress free evening, laughing and having cocktails.
There were vendors with jewelery, clothing and hair products. You can buy almost anything at these events.
I bought some new earrings and best of all the natural hair and skin care company Shea Moisture was there. I scored 3 hair products for twenty bucks. Yay me! I bought 2 Curl Enhancing smoothies and some kind of volumizing spray. I'm stocking up people. They do not have that stuff in AD.
There was free cocktails too (of course we indulged), plus a goodie bag with some sample products.
Check out the website, there are tons of events happening especially in the summer.

Haha, Courtney with instant bangs courtesy of a headband. She did not buy it.
I saw this girl's afro and had to snap a pic. She is wearing one of the head pieces
Emily trying on one of the head pieces, how cute!
Courtney with her goodie bad and cocktail

She is wearing a really cool hair piece she made.

How I Spent Saturday

What a busy day!
I had to take two exams for my initial teacher certification. Each exam lasted for 4 hours. Thankfully, I did not stay in them for that long. I think I finished each exam in a little over 2 hrs. I kept praying and praying that I was choosing the right answers. I hate multiple choice!!! Fingers crossed that I passed.

Online Dating- I give up again.

I know I have said this before but I went back on my words, shame on me.
Online dating is not for me. I throw out my pole and all i catch is the plastic bag that floats under water.

Summer Days Are Here

I had better get used to wearing long skirts. A lot of the outfits I'll be wearing will consist of long skirts and long sleeve shirts particularly for work.
Here are two great ways of wearing the maxi skirt which is back in style, yay!
I wouldn't be able to wear either of them to work without a cardigan but I can wear them out in my everyday life.
I'm happy that the culture is a little more liberal and I won't have to wear long sleeves everywhere.

Wanderlust Invoked

I am yet to become the world traveller I am destined to be but it's not too early to begin my research and planning.
The most fascinating thing for me is to come across women especially those who look like me,  who travel the world living a similar version of my dream.
The dream that I have nurtured for so long can be a reality and I'm inspired by these women to be relentless in my pursuit of seeing it come to fruition.

Snapshots by Instagram

This weekend I had so much fun. I was a true socialite. I was brunching, lunching and happy houring.
On Friday, quite serendipitously I experienced the best sangria I have had in a very long time. My friend and I were trying to find a happy hour place, we walked for a while and spotted  Neely's, as in the Neelys from the Food Network. At first we didn't realize that it was owned by them, we were just ready to go somewhere and they had 4 dollar happy hour specials, ummmm  yes please.
There were some interesting drinks on the menu. Green Tomato Sangria, and yes it really had green tomatoes. Hmm, not for me I thought, so I ordered the Sparkling Sangria which has champagne instead of wine. Yummy!!!

It's been awhile since I mentioned anything about my hair. I still have my Crochet Braids in even though they are a HOT mess but the beauty is that only I can tell. Headbands and a ponytail is the hairstyle of the month.
I'm waiting until the school year is over to take them out and wear my natural hair out. I mentioned that this was one of my goals and I haven't forgotten.
In the meantime I've been scouring the 'net for inspiration and education.
During my search I found these beautiful ladies and can only hope that my hair will look half as good as theirs.
It's so tempting to color my hair, I love the blond color of the girl in the bottom photo but I just don't think I could rock that color, also love her cut.
Don't know what color I could get that would be cool but not over the top. Guess I'll have to do some more searching.

I'll be posting when the day actually comes. Wish me luck!!

The End of the Road

It's the time of year I'm sure most teachers look forward to; the end of the school year.
We've started counting down the days until we bid farewell to lesson plans and behavior problems and stress. There are not too many days left before my school ends, 19 to be exact. Oh sweet glorious freedom!!
