Thankful

Hi lovelies,
it's a bit late in the day but I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I of course had to work but celebrated on Friday by cooking and inviting a few friends over. We had such a great time. Made me realize how blessed I am to have made such lovely friends here.

Although I didn't grow up celebrating Thanksgiving in Jamaica, it became a part of my life once I moved to America. My best friend always invited me to spend the day with her and her family. I like that there's a specific day when people come together and celebrate all the the things they are thankful for.

Life can get so hectic and it's nice to have the opportunity to just  be with family, eating and having a good time.

In keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving I decided to make a list of things I'm thankful for

1. Life
Every time I drive on the streets in Abu Dhabi, I am thankful for life. Seriously, the driving here is so insane and people are super ridiculous. I am so thankful to God for keeping me alive. Also, it's a pretty good life for the most part. I am generally happy and I'm healthy. Not many people can really say that, I'm blessed.

2. My mom
I really love my mom and I am thankful to have her in my life. She is my anchor and it's good to know that I have someone who is constantly prayer for me and looking out for my best interest.

3. My friends
I've been mostly lucky in the friends department. I 'm thankful for the friends I've made here in Abu Dhabi and the ones back home who take the time to keep in touch whether by WhatsApp or Facebook. I love that they check on me and tell me they miss me.

4. My car
How was i living before? Now that I've gotten used to driving and the convenience of my little Yaris, I can;t imagine what life will be like once I move back to NY and have to navigate public transportation.

5. My apartment
My little space is so cozy. I love laying out on my couch and relaxing. The view of the city at nights when all the building are lit up is amazing. I feel so lucky and the best part is that it's free!

6. Music
I can't imagine not having music in my life. When I'm driving or chilling at home I'm always blasting my music. Also thankful for the privilege of being able to hear and appreciate music.

7. My Tv, hulu plus and nextflix
When I first moved to AD, I decided I wasn't going to get a TV. I think I may have been suffering from a temporary bout of madness. What was I thinking? I am pretty sure I would have died of boredom by now.
I would be missing out on the awesomeness of The Mindy Project and White Collar and basically all my fave shows. I am thankful that God brought me to my senses.

8. Whatsapp, Skype and FaceTime
Thank God for free forms of communication. 'nuff said.

Weekly Wishes #38

Hey lovelies,
Happy Monday!
So I have a 5 day mini vacay coming up next becasue the UAE will be celebrating 43 years of being a country, and I'm so happy. I won't be traveling (unlike most people) because I'll be going to Vietnam in a few weeks and I don't have money to be traipsing all over the globe like that.

I'll just be relaxing here and making the best of this staycation. I'll probably go to the beach, head to Dubai for a day and lay on my couch a lot.
Maybe finally get that pedicure I'm so desperately in need of.
It's just nice not to have to go to work for 5 whole days. #happy #slothmode

In other news, I took my braids out. I was really starting to missing my little 'fro.
This is only temporary though becasue I will be getting re-braided in a few days. Having braids has been so easy and gave my hair a rest from being manipulated so frequently. This allowed my hair to achieve some length. Yay!

Let's see how I did with my goals shall we.

Last Week's Goals
  • Go to bed by 9 pm. I failed at this. I spent far too much time perusing Pinterest and Instagram. Sad.
  • Worry less. I actually didn't get stressed this week even with evaluation at work. No worrying and I feel so much better.
  • Do something fun this week/weekend I killed it with this goal. I went to not 1 but 2 free concerts. Friday night was Miguel and Jason Derulo and Saturday was Pharrell Williams. I got dressed up and did my hair.

Goals this Week
  • Rest. I'm still going to try to get to bed by 9. I've failed tonight but I am going to try the rest of the week.
  • Put away the laundry. Oh I am so ashamed but half of my bed has been taken over by laundry.
  • Read. I haven't been reading anything besides my bible. All the time I've been spending on social media should go into something more productive.
  • Pedicure. Need. Badly.
That's it! Simple right?

Weekend Shenanigans

Hey lovelies,
I hope you're all having a fab weekend.
Sadly, mine is over, womp womp.
It was however loads of fun so I won't complain too much.

Friday I had dinner with my lovely lady friend Jen and then we headed to the beach for a free concert featuring Miguel and Jason Derulo. The concert was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of either musicians but I have to give it up to Jason Derulo for being a great performer. He gives a hundred percent and boy can he dance. He's also not too harsh on the eyes.

Jenny and I on the beach

On Saturday I was just hanging out on my couch minding my own business, when a friend called me up with an extra free ticket to see Pharrell Williams. I literally had 15 minutes to get ready but you bet I pulled it together. How could I miss Pharrell? For free? ummm, yeah wasn't gonna happen.
I'm so happy I went. He is a killer performer and really knows how to engage his audience.
We had a blast until it was time to go home. Picture thousands of people trying to get taxis all at once. Awful and insane!
We literally had run after the taxis, thank God I wore flats. It took us a minute but I'm straight gangsta and I was determined to get us a cab.
Don't picture that part, I have to preserve my ladylike image on this here blog.
As un-fun as it was trying to get the cab, once were in it we did have a good laugh. Thank God for cool friends who aren't easily bothered when things like that happen. They were just super chill about the whole situation.

Didn't do too badly considering the limited amount of time I had to get ready.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend as much as I did.
Until next time,
besos!

Weekly Wishes #37

Hi lovelies,
Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was super low- key. I spent most of the time at home just relaxing and catching up on my tv time. sadly I was also battling another sinus infection so it was good to stay home and rest. I'm so over these infections btw. Can a sista get a break?

Did some email chatting with a friend from back home. It was so nice to catch up with her, she had some encouraging words that really was what I needed. I am so grateful for my friends. Even after three years away I still have a connection with many of them. this makes me happy cause they'll be there when I eventually go home.
M'k here are what my goals look like for last week

Last Week's Goals
  • gym x 3
  • get a pedi this is the only thing I didn't do. after paying my speeding fines and registering my card, there is no more money for fancy things like pedis. #sad
  • finish laundry
  • get my car re-registered.
  • pay speeding fines
This Week's Goals
  • Go to bed by 9 pm. Need to get more rest. Sleep is good.
  • Worry less. I feel myself getting stressed about some things that I have no control over. Stress is bad
  • Do something fun this week/weekend.

Alrighty folks that's it for me.

weekly wishes #36

Hi lovelies,
Happy Monday!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was great. Spent part of it at the Taste of Abu Dhabi event. Food samplings, Food network celebrity chefs and The Beach Boys, and just a grand time with my friend. I couldn't have had it any other way.
Also the weather was perfect! It is finally cooling down.
Beach time! I can bust out my new swimsuits from J.Crew.

Last Week's Goals
  • Gym x 3 this week.  Accomplished this goal and have the back pains to prove it.
  • do laundry.  Well I did some, so that's a start.
  • mop the floors and vacuum . Nope.
  • clean the chipped polish off my toes, they look a hot mess.  I did clean them off but to be honest I don't think they look any better. This is a job for the professionals.

This Week's Goals
  • gym x 3
  • get a pedi
  • finish laundry
  • get my car re-registered
  • pay speeding fines
So much to get done this week. Wish me luck!
Have a wonderful week my loves.

check this out

Hey lovelies,
I came across this great post by Dan over at Single Dad Laughing. It's essentially marriage advice or how to not blow your marriage if you're already in one.
Even though I am not married yet or close to it, I always like to keep myself educated and knowledgable.

There are 2 parts to his list entitled 16 Ways I Blew My Marriage.
He basically tells all the things he did wrong in his marriages, yes 2 of them (so he must be an expert) and what he would have done differently.
There is some really great advice, my favorite being  "I wouldn't poop with the door open." Ummm hellooo, doesn't everyone know just how unattractive this is. Who wants to subject someone to the torture of having to see your poop face!?? That is  SURE way to cause any relationship to disintegrate, lol. On a serious note though he makes a really good point and it's not as simplified as I've made it sound.
Seriously, go check it out. He's a great writer and really funny.
